The Indian Railway Budget 2013-14 had been released by the Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on 26th February 2013, Tuesday in Parliament of India.

The Indian Railway Budget 2013-14 is the maiden railway budget for the Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Indian Railway Budget 2013-14 Highlights:

  • About 1,000 crossings to be energised by solar power
  • About 1,047 million tonnes freight loading estimated during 2013-14
  • About 1.51 lakh vacancies to be filled up in Indian Railways
  • There will about 179 escalators and 400 lifts at A 1 and other stations
  • There will 22 new rail lines to be taken up in 2013-14
  • Indian Railway to run 67 new Express and 26 new passenger trains
  • To introduce 8 DEMU services and 5 MEMU services
  • The run of 57 trains to be extended
  • The frequency of 24 trains to increase
  • About 72 additional suburban services in Mumbai and 18 additional suburban services in Kolkata
  • For the parents of unmarried posthumous awardees of Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra special complementary first class passes to be issued
  • By this year the electrification of 1,200 km to be completed
  • Providing of free Wi-Fi on some trains
  • At Secunderabad the Indian Railways Institute of Financial Management is to be set up
  • Locomotive cabs to be air-conditioned
  • No price hike in passenger fares
  • For improving stations in New Delhi Rs.100 crore is announced
  • Rise of chargers for Superfast and Tatkal booking
